It’s a miracle

We’ve all seen these slogans before… “I build my business on your referrals.” “Please don’t keep me a secret.” “I’m never too busy for your referrals.” …but do you know that it takes three miracles to get a referral by giving someone your business card? And did you know there’s an actual “technique” to giving someone the best referral possible?Any who owns a small company or home business knows the benefit of gaining new clients based off referrals. Friends trust friends and their suggestions and opinions. So they inherently have a certain level of trust built into the businesses their friends refer. But there are three miracles that have to happen to get a

referral from a friend to whom you’ ve given your business card.

  • Miracle #!: The friend doesn’t lose your card.
  • Miracle #2:The friend has it with them when they are talking about your line of work… “I have a realtor I know that I had a great experience with…”
  • Miracle #3: The person who received your card actually calls you.

This past weekend was…

Erin Catalano Realtor ConsultantThis past weekend was the Clayton Spring 2011 Garage Sale event – and what an event it was!  The few days before were a nail-biter!  We weren’t sure if the weather was going to turn for the better or for the worse.  Neighbors were bracing themselves for a day of downpours.  But at 6:00 AM on the day of the event it went from cloudy to “not so bad”.  Then at 7:00, when I headed out to deliver maps, it went from “not so bad” to “pretty nice”. And by 8:00 we had visions of sunshine and the day went from “pretty nice” to “AWESOME” in no time.

Aside from the blessing of having a beautiful day to host this years event, I was blessed to meet so many Nice Neighbors!  I had so much fun going from house to house meeting a variety of neighbors who had some really great stuff for sale.  I discovered a lot about people by what they had for sale and some of the stories they had to tell.  I found out how long some of my neighbors have lived in Clayton and I met a lot of neighbors who were new parents or had children close in age to my own.  It was an amazing opportunity to reach out and connect with people that I may not have ever met.  The feeling was mutual to some of the neighbors who not only hosted a sale but who went around and met other families hosting sales.  It was a day to get rid of the old, meet someone new, and maybe find a treasure or two.

I want to thank everyone who hosted a sale this year and to those who came out and bought some treasures.  This event is a labor of love, I would say.  There are a little over 700 homes combined within Clayton, Clayton Meadows and Clayton Ridge.  It takes me around 4 weeks to deliver flyers door to door inviting neighbors to participate.  There are a million little tasks to complete up to and after the event from responding to registration emails to changing dates on the pink banners and getting those out on their poles for everyone to see.  (Which I’ve learned that sometimes I’m not the best at getting those poles to stand up straight.)  Even after the event there are “Thank You” notes to write and goodie-bags to deliver.  But the rewards to hosting an event such as this for my own neighborhood are immeasurable and in my eyes, the effort is totally worth it!

But the fun isn’t over yet!  There’s another round of Community Garage Sales coming up for Wildberry and Platte Ridge hosted by John!  Be on the look out for information outlining the details of their event coming up in June… a tradition going 24 years strong!!  A whole new list of neighbors and their treasures will be available to view on our website very soon… stay tuned!
